NZSS Swimming Champs

Congratulations to the GBHS swimming team on their fantastic performances at the NZ Secondary School Swimming Championships over the weekend.

Qualifying for this national event is an achievement in itself, with swimmers required to meet demanding qualifying times before competing against the best secondary school athletes from across New Zealand.

Our team of five - Joio Breacker (14), Eleanor Chidgey (14), Dylan Gear (14), Aimee Marsh (13), and Oscar Raos (14) - raced in 18 events, producing outstanding results. Across the weekend, they achieved more than 23 seconds of combined personal bests, a testament to their dedication, countless early-morning training sessions, and unwavering commitment in the pool.

A special congratulations goes to Eleanor, who swam an incredible 6-second personal best in the 50m Breaststroke (not easy to do in such a short race).

Congratulations also to Dylan and Aimee, who both earned Top 10 New Zealand rankings in their events, and have also qualified for the 2027 New Zealand National Age Group Championships - an outstanding accomplishment.
