Musical Milestones

Friday, 14th August 2026 at 2:05pm

Green Bay High School's Music students took part in a number of new performance opportunities and competitions, including Stand Up Stand Out, the Auckland Jazz Festival, and the KBB Music Festival.

We are incredibly proud of the students who have represented GBHS through our Funk Band, Incipit (Senior Band), Elias Hunt (Yr 12), Chamber Music Group, Rockapella, and Jazz Band (Green Note).

A special congratulations to Green Note, who were awarded Silver for their outstanding performance at the Auckland Jazz Festival. Incipit also achieved an incredible result, making it through to the Semi-Finals of Stand Up Stand Out. Our Chamber Music Group will also be recognised this Saturday for their hard work and dedication, a wonderful achievement for the group.

These opportunities have provided our students with valuable experiences performing in competitive and professional environments, working alongside other talented young musicians, and representing Green Bay High School with pride. For some of our students, these were their very first experiences competing and performing outside of school, making their achievements all the more special.

We would also like to acknowledge our Itinerant Music teachers, many of whom have been involved in these opportunities and helped our students grow as musicians. They have all shone in their performances and contributed so much to the musical life of our school. A very special thank you must go to Leza Corben, David Edmundsen, Tim Stewart, and Amelia Owens for the incredible commitment, time, and additional hours they have given over the past two terms. Their dedication to rehearsals, preparation, performances, and supporting our students has made a huge difference. Their willingness to go above and beyond has helped our students step onto these stages feeling supported and confident.

Finally, a huge thank you to our Performing Arts Team for their ongoing support, classroom spaces, encouragement, and behind-the-scenes work. In particular, thank you to our Performing Arts Coordinator, Beth McIvors, for helping make so much of this possible behind the scenes.

It has been an incredibly busy and rewarding two terms for Music, and we couldn't be prouder of what our students and staff have achieved. Our students have stepped up, represented GBHS with pride, and shown just how much talent, dedication, and musical potential we have within our department.
