GBHS students are reporting data to Te Kawerau ā Maki and Auckland Council so that meaningful actions can be put in place to support local diversity.

GBHS's Year 11 and 12 Science Collective research group began the next steps in their ongoing investigative projects, with further monitoring of streams at La Rosa Park yesterday.

The collective has split into four groups to begin multi-year monitoring of invertebrates and other environmental markers at four sites near the school - Waitahurangi and Parahiku streams at La Rosa Park, Parahiku stream at Rahui Kahika Reserve, Motukaraka beach and bush and grass areas on campus.

Students will monitor the sites once per term for at least the next year.

They are being supported with processes and equipment by environmental and sustainability educators from Auckland Council.

Once students have more data, they will work with Te Kawerau ā Maki and Council to decide on actions to improve the health of these important areas of our community.
