Career Education Plan

Thursday, 23rd April 2026 at 11:37am

Green Bay High School's Career Education plan aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their future education and career pathways.

To achieve this, we have identified four key objectives:

  • Develop self-awareness and personal identity.
  • Explore career options and pathways.
  • Build employability skills and financial literacy.
  • Learn to make informed decisions about future education and employment.

Our Career Education plan comprises four key components:

  1. The plan aims to provide students with relevant and up-to-date career information and guidance.
  2. Over a five-year period, students will develop individual career portfolios in Career Central to assist them to explore their career options and pathways.
  3. In the senior school, work-integrated learning opportunities provide students with real-life work experience, which aids in the development of employability skills and financial literacy.
  4. Industry and community partnerships are formed to expose students to a range of career options and pathways.

Our whole-school Career Education plan is a collaborative and inclusive approach that involves all staff and stakeholders. Throughout the year students are encouraged to attend events such as the Careers Out West expo at the Trust Stadium (9am - 3pm) on 6 May 2026; and our weekly Kawhe & Kōrero sessions in E3 in E3 at lunchtime where we invite guest speakers to come and talk about their career journeys. Schedule HERE

Students and staff are offered a range of resources and support, such as access to career information and guidance, professional development for staff, partnerships with external agencies, alumni, and industry networks. This term, an extended form time will be set aside for all students to complete the first module of their career portfolio in Career Central. The dates and times for all sessions are:

📅 Term 2: W3 (May 8th) - Friday - extended form time
📅 Term 3: Wk 3 (August 4th) Tuesday - extended form time
📅 Term 4: FORM TIME FOCUS Yr 9-12 - Y13 returning next steps

The GBHS Careers team encourages whānau and caregivers to view and comment on their child's career development modules, in Career Central. This will allow you to stay up-to-date with their progress and provide support where needed. We believe that by taking a collaborative and inclusive approach to career education, we will be able to provide our students with the best possible outcomes and opportunities for success.

He waka eke noa - we are all in this together!
