Protecting Our Community

Vape Free Kids NZ .

As a community we all acknowledge the huge problem vaping has become in New Zealand, and especially so for our rangatahi.
The impact is wide-ranging with many of our young people increasingly addicted to nicotine (which is higher in concentration in disposable vapes than used to be in cigarettes) and the impact of first and second-hand vape smoke on developing lungs. Added to this are the many wider social implications caused by the impact of vaping.

Some of our local community along with a group of others across New Zealand have created a Facebook group called Vape Free Kids NZ. In just over 2 weeks the group has gained over 750 members and is promoting two petitions calling for government change and tighter restrictions on vaping in New Zealand.

The group is asking for further community support with:

  1. The following Two petitions:
    Parliamentary petition
    Change.org petition
  2. Inviting you to join their facebook page: Vape Free Kids NZ
  3. Inviting you to follow the Science of Vaping facebook page set up by a researcher at the University of Auckland, who is studying vaping.
  4. Writing a letter to your local MP or the Minister of Health (Vape Free Kids NZ can provide you with a template).

There are a wide range of resources available for parents to support their whanau conversations. Here are a few listed below:
