Strike Action CONTINUES! updated: 31 May 2023
Kia ora e te whānau; Secondary school teachers nationwide, who are members of the PPTA, are returning to their industrial action from today. After a pause in this action to negotiate with the government there has been no resolution so rostering home will resume, starting tomorrow, Thursday 1 June with Year 12 students.
Across term two, teachers and staff who are PPTA members will refuse to give up scheduled planning and marking time to relieve for absent teachers or positions that are vacant and will also not attend meetings outside regular school hours.
As part of the industrial action, year groups will continue to be rostered home on particular days across the term. There may well be an escalation of this industrial action and as we receive this information we will continue to keep you informed of how this has an impact on the school and on your child.
The year groups will be rostered home on the following days, as per the original schedule (seen below):
- Year 12: Thursday 1 June
- Year 10: Tuesday 6 June
- Year 9: Thursday 8 June
You can find out more about the strike on the PPTA website, www.ppta.org.nz
We remain hopeful that there will be a positive resolution between the PPTA and the Ministry of Education.
