Feeling unwell?
There have been a lot of colds, flu and other respiratory illnesses circulating around school. Please make sure your child stays at home if they are feeling sick, or have any cold or flu symptoms. If a student has been unwell with a respiratory illness other than COVID-19, they should stay at home until 24 hours after they have significantly improved. If they still have a runny nose or dry cough that is not persistent, without any other symptoms such as fever, vomiting or diarrhoea, then they are unlikely to be infectious and can be considered well enough to attend school.
If your child becomes unwell during the school day, the correct process is that they obtain a note from their teacher (if during class-time) and bring that to the Health Centre in Student Services. Our Nursing team will call caregivers to communicate with them and arrange for the student to be sent home if needed. Students are not to pre-arrange collection due to sickness via email or phone, this will be dealt with by the Health Centre team.
Contact us! Our Nursing team welcome contact from parents and caregivers if they have concerns regarding their child. If a student has any long term medical needs or conditions, we would appreciate receiving relevant information you may have to enable us to implement care in a timely manner. Information will be uploaded as a confidential file to the student record - accessible to our Nursing team. Measles:
With active measles cases increasing around the world and a falling vaccination rate, New Zealand is at very high risk of a measles outbreak.
Health New Zealand, Te Whatu Ora has put out a measles alert, asking for people who are currently in New Zealand but who travelled in February on two international flights into Melbourne to come forward and contact Healthline as they may be measles contacts.

Ikura|Manaakitia te whare tangata Period products in schools:
Ikura | Manaakitia te whare tangata aims to provide access to free period products for children and young people in all state and state-integrated schools and kura across New Zealand. GBHS have opted into this scheme. We stock supplies of sanitary products that are freely available. Please remind your child about utilising this wonderful initiative, and that they can obtain supplies from the Health Centre and various classrooms around school.
ACC:
At GBHS, our two Registered Nurses can lodge ACC claims for students in case further health care services are required. If we have filed a claim for your child, we will communicate this with you.
Health New Lynn Youth Clinic:
Our school's Nursing team has links with support services in the wider community including a youth health clinic based at Health New Lynn. This service is free and exclusive to Green Bay High School students aged 13-22 and offers a range of support in a youth friendly way including support with long term/pre-existing conditions,advice and support for quitting vaping/smoking and sexual health concerns.
