Year 10 Leadership in Action students recently completed a two-day hike and overnight camp in the Waitākere Ranges as part of their practical leadership development.
The journey began at Puriri Ridge Track, where students carried out gear checks and prepared for the challenge ahead. The hike took them through native bush and along the Ōmanawanui Track, offering incredible views over the Manukau Harbour. After lunch at Whatipu, the group continued via Gibbons Track to reach Pararaha Valley Campground.
At camp, students set up their tents, cooked their own meals, and demonstrated growing independence and teamwork. The stream swim and relaxed downtime were definite highlights after a full day on the trail.
Day 2 saw the group hike north toward Karekare before beginning the steep climb up Comans Track. The heat made this section particularly demanding, but students pushed through, supported one another, and showed real resilience. The final stretch along the Mercer Bay Loop offered impressive coastal views and a rewarding finish to the journey.
Across both days, it was fantastic to see students demonstrating initiative, communication, and responsibility, all key components of the Leadership in Action programme. They represented the school well and should be proud of what they achieved.
