Tongan Language Week (Uike Kātoanga'i 'o e Lea Faka-Tonga)
The official 2026 theme is Ko 'etau hiva, ko e fe'unu mahu'inga ia ki he mo'ui 'a e Tonga, which translates to "Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture".
To celebrate Tongan Language Week, GBHS's Cultural Council has organised some fun events:
🌺Tuesday lunchtime - netball, just come along and grab a bib to join in.
🌺 Wednesday interval - pronunciation workshop during interval, for anyone who would love to learn some basic Tongan words, names and phrases, and practice pronouncing them correctly.
🌺Thursday lunchtime - Heilala making in the Auditorium foyer. Students or anyone can make their own Sei - a Polynesian traditional flower.
🌺Friday - students can wear traditional formal Tongan dress. Lunchtime performance group in the auditorium and taste a keke isite in the foyer!
