Mānawatia te Kāhui o Matariki

10:00am Waitahurangi - La Rosa Reserve Friday 28th June 2024

Tēnā koutou katoa, We warmly invite you and your whānau to join us for our Matariki ceremony on Friday the 28th June 2024.

The ceremony will begin at 10:00am. Please assemble from 9:45am at the car park of La Rosa Reserve. Once we are gathered near Waitahurangi awa we will honour our whānau members who have departed over the past Matariki, deliver karakia relative to Matariki, sing waiata, share the story of Waitahurangi and commemorate the beginning o Te Mātahi o te Tau (the Māori New Year).

We will then return to the GBHS kura approx 10:30am where you can purchase kawhe/coffee, etc from Cara's Kawhe House in C2, browse through the stalls (cash or Internet Banking only) and learn how to make flowers out of harakeke (flax).

You can also join us for our 'Story Telling Time' where you will hear the story about the creation of Matariki, written by Amelie Bourhill (Year 13).

There will also be performances by our Pasifika students and our students from Te Ahi Kā.

This will be followed by a hāngī to conclude our Matariki celebrations. Please note: our popular hāngī tickets have SOLD OUT. Ticket holders are kindly reminded to ensure you have picked up your kai ticket from the Auditorium foyer, before the feast begins!

We are really looking forward to this much-anticipated event and hope you are able to join us.

Mānawatia a Matariki!
