Learning the Tools of the Trade:
Green Bay High School's Gateway/Construction students are very fortunate to receive hands-on experience thanks to the support from Watts and Hughes Construction during the build of our new 3-story Science Block.
Before donning the tools of the trade, students took part in lessons learning how to use all of the tools required, followed by a demonstration.
"We first went through the plans and wall type details and ran through why different walls have different acoustic ratings, such as higher rating between teaching spaces and slightly lower between teaching spaces and corridors, for example," says Daniel Gunnell, Project Manager at Watts and Hughes.
"It is good for them to know why they are doing a task, as it makes more sense to see the purpose of it for them."
This is a fantastic opportunity for our students. We are very grateful for all the time and energy from both our Careers department and Watts and Hughes to make this happen.
There will be additional opportunities available in the coming months for more Gateway students to take part in building tasks as they become available.
In addition, fifteen of our Level 3 DVC classes will visit Jasmax in April. Jasmax is the design lead of our new Science block.
