NZ Athletics Team Selection!
Friday, 21st February 2025 at 7:30am
Year 13 student Lauren Barrett-Hamilton successfully juggles sports and school commitments to achieve personal bests.
Not only is Lauren a student leader, and Whatipu House leader, but she is also leading the way in the Athletic arena, securing Gold in the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Athletics Association 2024 Championships held in Timaru - with Personal Bests of 11.56m in the triple jump, and 14.79 in 100m hurdles…and competed in the Capital Classics 100m hurdles in Wellington.
Ending 2024 on a high note, Lauren’s accomplishments are set to overcome new hurdles, with her 2025 selection (one of only 16 NZSS athletes picked) for the NZ Secondary Schools’ Athletics team travelling to California in April, this year!
Lauren also has her sights set on making it through to the Arcadia Invitational, while in California – which is an amazing experience to be a part of, for both competitors and spectators alike. Lauren would be taking part in the Heptathlon; 7 events over 2 days, with hurdle, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin, and 800m.
Along with after-school trainings of up to 6 days/12 hours per week, and fundraising to help cover event costs, Lauren is focussing on her next main event – the Club Nationals, in a few weeks, held in Dunedin.
We look forward to hearing more about Lauren’s accomplishments.
