On Thursday, we had an exciting opportunity to take a group of our Pasifika students to Pacific Health Wayfinders - Year 11 Va’a Experience.
This was the University’s first year piloting the program for Year 11 students. Where they explored different professions in the medical field. They looked at Nursing, Optometry, Physiology, Radiology, Medicine, Human Anatomy Museum, and workshops on fundamental study skills.
The Pacific Health Wayfinders team at University of Auckland set up interactive stations with various Pasifika university students and professors. This was intentional, so our high school students could see pacific representation in health tertiary education, and be inspired to venture into study or careers that may have been unfamiliar to them prior.
Our students valued the experience, and engaged well with other schools during the group activities. They represented Green Bay High School exceptionally by getting involved and showing leadership in their different groups. They also enjoyed touring through the campus, and of course - lunch provided by the Pacific Health Wayfinders team.
Another great opportunity for Pasifika students thanks to the help of the Careers team and Pasifika Komiki. Fa’afetai tele lava.
