Watercare Project: Investigating water quality within our community

A selected group of students are investigating water quality within our community as part of a collaborative water project between GBHS and Watercare, supported by COMET: https://cometauckland.org.nz/ and visited the Waitākere Dam today (14 July 2025) to learn about its construction and the ongoing maintenance required to ensure Auckland receives clean water.

Students conducted water quality testing, measuring pH levels, temperature, and nitrate concentrations - marking the first phase of the project, with the next step involving testing the quality of tap water at GBHS and in our local streams.

This project-based learning experience will inspire and support students in their pursuit of STEM education, becoming curious, connected learners, solving problems and speaking confidently to stakeholders about their investigations and results.
