Sport Finals!

Thursday, 14th August 2025 at 9:30am

This Saturday will prove to be an action-packed Finals weekend off the back of a successful Semi-Finals round!

Our Football 14A and 14 Development Boys' team are both playing off for 1st/2nd place in their division, please come down and support the 14A's who are playing here at school on Saturday!

Junior Netball 10B, 10 Blue and 9A Girls' teams are all playing off for 1st/2nd place in their grade on Saturday, at Te Pai these will be great games to watch! Our 10A and 9 Blue teams have also made it to the finals, playing off for 3rd/4th place.

The Rugby season has come to an end after their last game on Saturday. Our First XV team finished 3rd in their division, and the U70's finished 5th in their division; great outcomes for both teams!

This week concludes the winter sport season for all but two teams. Our 2nd XI Girls and Junior A Girls Football will have their last games next Wednesday.

GBHS has two final one-day tournaments before the busy winter tournament week (Week 7) gets underway. On Tuesday last week, our cross-country group competed in the Road Race Champs at Bruce Pulman Park. Despite the grim weather conditions they always seem to experience at each of these races, everyone ran amazingly and used this competition as preparation for their upcoming Road Race Tournament, to be held in winter tournament week.

On Thursday of last week, our badminton players had a chance to show their class at the Badminton Champs at the Auckland Badminton Centre. Everyone had some awesome games and enjoyed every minute, even playing some social rounds with other schools while waiting for their games to start. Unbeknownst to us, this competition was strictly a 'Seniors Only' competition, which was only brought to our attention when Year 9 Student, Jana Krishnakumar, had made it all the way to the Finals round! Despite not being able to play the finals, Jana gave those senior students a run for their money and proved herself as worthy opposition. Although the outcome was not what we wanted, we're still super proud of all students who competed!

Our Premier and Senior A Netball team played in the Finals on Tuesday night. Our Prems had an intense game against Avondale, and with some unfortunate calls going against them they didn't take the win but have finished 4th in their division. Senior A played an extremely tight but fair game against Western Springs and came away with a 28-23 win, finishing in 3rd place in their division. Well done to both teams for their great efforts!

The 1st XI Football Girls' team now have a well-deserved two-week rest to prepare for winter tournament week after winning their league. Our 2nd XI Girls' team had a great 4-1 win over Waitākere on Wednesday, hoping to end the season next week on a high.

Junior Green and Junior Blue Basketball Boys' teams had their last game of the season on Wednesday. A great 49-35 win over Auckland Grammar for our Junior Blue Boys! The Senior Open Basketball Boys' team had a bye for their last game of the season, and the Senior Development and U17 Open Basketball Boys' teams will have their last game this afternoon (Thursday 14 August).

Following an unfortunate 1-0 loss against Liston, our Football First XI Boys' team have one more chance to avoid relegation if the cards are dealt in their favour. They play their last game of the season against Botany Downs here at school toomorrow (Friday 15 August) ; if you're not busy getting dressed up for the senior School Ball, come on down and cheer them on!
