Today is Learning Support Awareness Day: 29 August 2024

All tamariki in Aotearoa deserve access to the support they need to thrive in education. This can look like a teacher aide, specialist, or professional advice for teachers.

The need for learning support far outstrips provision - for every seven tamariki who access support, three miss out.

Ministry of Education learning support staffing has a 16% vacancy rate.

Teachers, education support staff, principals and learning support specialists agree on what is needed:

• Increase the number of teacher aides
• Increase the number of learning support specialists
