As you may be aware, there have been cases of Measles reported in the News regarding several seconday school students, in Auckland, who have been infectious with measles last week.
Please take the time to read the following Fact Sheet, provided by Ministry of Health - CLICK HERE. This is also a timely reminder for parents/caregivers to check their children's vaccination records by either calling their GP, or checking their Well Child/Tamariki Ora book.
People are considered immune if they have evidence of two Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) doses after 12 months of age; have had measles; or were born before 1969.
Children without evidence of two MMR vaccinations will have to quarantine for seven days. Vaccinated children do not have to quarantine.
Symptoms of Measles may include:
- Fever (temperature above 38°C)
- Runny nose (or blocked nose)
- Cough
- Loss of appetite
- Sore and watery pink eyes
- You may also get white spots inside your mouth
- Hot, red blotchy rash on skin (3-5 days after symptoms begin)
Should your child contract Measles, please seek medical advice from your GP; additionally you may like to speak with one of our school nurses Melissa Povey, or Greer Cutfield. Attendance must also be reported via the SchoolBridge App (or) directly to Attendance Officer Julie Southey.
