Preparing students for their future
The Careers department at Green Bay High School works alongside students to achieve academic success as well as providing support for them to develop their career pathways. Students become engaged in their education, set goals for their future while being empowered to have a better understanding of which vocation or further study to follow when they leave school. Ongoing communication and support with families via year level Careers Google Classrooms helps to guide students and their whanau towards career based conversations, supplying links and up to date information on upcoming courses, jobs, scholarships, tertiary course planning, apprenticeships, and other opportunities.
By completing the Youth Employability Programme - Licence to Work, all Vocational Development Studies students will improve their employability skills (YEP). The YEP includes skill building modules, volunteer service, and work experience assignments all aimed at improving young people's abilities in the seven most critical employability qualities recognised by businesses. The subjects taught in the Vocational Development Studies course include how to develop a C.V., identify career objectives, obtain a learner's driving licence, financial planning and employee rights and responsibilities in addition to employability skills.
Gateway & Vocational Pathways:
A programme for Year 12 and 13 students who are wanting to investigate an industry or workplace. This programme provides students with an alternative way to gain NCEA credits. Pathways students spend one day a week off site learning in a tertiary environment and Gateway students spend up to 10 days in the workplace, taking on a variety of jobs.
NCEA Level 2 Vocational Development Studies:
Vocational Development Studies (L2) we will help you become work-ready, whether you are looking for part-time work while studying, or preparing yourself for the world of work post-school.
NCEA Level 3 Vocational Development Studies:
In Vocational Development Studies, students learn the skills needed to become work-ready, either when looking for part-time work while studying, or in preparation of the world of work post-school. This course could lead to further tertiary study and/or transition into employment in the customer service industry.
