Kōtuitui Writers' Challenge
Thursday, 13th November 2025 at 9:40am
Green Bay High School is pleased to share the results of the 2025 Kōtuitui Writers' Challenge, with entries from all of our schools in the community from Year 1 to Year 13.
Students were challenged to reflect on their Ūkaipō prompted by the theme: “Kia Mau Ki Tō Ūkaipō.” Hold steadfast to your place of origin or sustenance. Participants shared their interpretations through various modes of writing.
This theme provoked some reflective and thoughtful written expression around what this means for us as a community, with a particular focus on our connection to the whenua and people we consider our Ūkaipō.
Judges were overwhelmed by both the number and the quality of the entries. A huge congratulations to all participants, and in particular to those who placed in each category. Ngā mihi nūnui ki a koutou katoa!
The judging panel was made up of representatives from across our school contexts - from primary, intermediate and high school spaces (thank you to Lorraine Sauvarin and Jess O’Sullivan, Across School leaders from Green Bay School and New Lynn School respectively, who supported this mahi). A special mihi to Whaea Tia McIver, who has led and judged the Te Reo Māori inclusion.
Kia kaha, Te Reo Māori! Te Reo Māori is our forever language!
