Y8 Transition Visits and Assessments

Thank you to our fantastic Year 9 role models.
We are very proud of how our students take on responsibility and leadership roles - answering an array of questions from students who are new to our school, during Transition Week. What better way to get an insight into how we operate, than straight from the students themselves!
Comments such as "OMG this place is so big!" and "This is cool!" were among some of the excited and enthusiastic Year 8 discussions as they made their way through various parts of the school.
Green Bay High School runs a structured transition programme for all Year 8 students intending to join us (Year 9 2024). Transition visits took place this week. These are designed to help relieve some of the stress which can be associated with starting at a new school as well as an initial chance to begin building relationships with key people.
Students were placed into small groups to meet with some of the key people who will be significant in their life at Green Bay High School and participated in transition activities to assist them with becoming more familiar with our school.
Part of Transition Week included students completing a non-verbal reasoning assessment. This is a standardised assessment that does not involve reading or writing and provides an insight into the abilities of students who think more easily in images than words, and those who have limited reading skills and those who have English as an additional language. This information is used in conjunction with the range of other data we receive such asTTle and PATs tests for reading and maths, school reports and enrolment interviews, to place students into the class we believe will best meet their learning needs.
If you have any questions regarding enrolment, course selection, and/or Transition Visits - please contact us, we are happy to help!
