Phones Away for A Day

The Education Review Office is carrying out some research to learn more about how ‘Phones away for the day’ is going. They want to hear your thoughts on what’s working, what’s not working, and what could make it better. Please take 5–10 minutes to share your thoughts in this quick survey - your input really makes a difference. Participation is voluntary and confidential.

This is a small project aiming to understand how well the ‘Phones Away for a Day’ policy has been implemented and if there have been any shifts in learning a year on. Reflecting on the 'Phones Away for a Day' policy and its intended impact of improved student achievement and engagement. The information will be used to help support schools by identifying where more support or changes might be useful.
Additionally, two Year 11 classes across secondary schools nationwide will be selected to complete a STUDENT SURVEY - with 10 minutes during the school day provided for students in these clasess to complete the survey. Their participation is important, but voluntary. Surveys will also be completed by secondary school teachers, leaders, and board members, with optional online focus groups offering support and solutions.
What is ERO?
The Education Review Office (ERO) asks questions about how schools are helping students to learn and achieve. It reports back to schools, communities and the Government so that they know what is working and what can be improved.
What is the survey about and why is it important?
The Education Review Office (ERO) wants to know about how well schools have introduced new rules about using cell phones at school. ERO also wants to know about what impact these new rules have had on students, as well as parents and whānau.The information will be used to help support schools by identifying where more support or changes might be useful, so the policy has its intended impact of improved student achievement and engagement.
