GBHS Newsletter (4 August 2023)
Kia Orana! It’s been another busy week with lots of great things happening. Our Fono on Wednesday night was a highlight, and it was fantastic to see so many students and families gathering together to celebrate Pacific culture at Green Bay High School. It was particularly special that our Fono was during Cook Island Language week.
This week marked the start of the course selection process and on Tuesday, students in Years 9-12 took part in a Career’s module aimed at supporting them to make good selection decisions. It’s the perfect time to have conversations at home about future study and career plans and to look at the course information on SchoolPoint. The careers team is here to help, and the PST conferences next week are also a great opportunity to talk with teachers about courses in the senior school.
The Board of Trustees are working on the next strategic plan which creates the direction for our school for the next two years. Our school vision is ‘Te Angitu Ngātahi, Succeeding Together’ and when we talk about ‘succeeding together', we mean not only our students, but also our whānau, our staff and our wider community. So, it’s important that your voice is part of our next strategic plan!
The starting place for our next strategic plan is thinking about what the most important skills, knowledge and qualities Green Bay High School students should have when they leave school. There will be an opportunity at the PST conferences next week to share your thoughts, and a survey coming out later in the week too. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to get involved in deciding what’s important at our school.
Looking forward to seeing many of you across the next few days at school sports and events.
Have a great weekend, Fiona Barker PRINCIPAL
