School Sports

Students have embraced every opportunity to represent the school this winter season, whether it be through trying something new, returning to a familiar sport, or continuing on from last year. It has been fantastic to see the commitment and sportsmanship shown across so many sporting codes.
We have 38 teams competing in hockey, netball, rugby, football, table tennis and basketball this winter sport season. Beyond our weekly competitions, many students have represented the school in swimming, orienteering, squash, cross country, mountain biking, fencing, snow sports, equestrian, duathlon, and gymnastics; just to name a few.
There have been many sporting successes across the term that we would like to recognise:
- Both the Girls' and Boys' Squash teams finished 2nd in their respective divisions at the Auckland Team Championships. At the Auckland Individual Championships, Ollie Schamrel placed 3rd in the Division 3 Girls' competition.
- Zoey Wood placed 2nd in her class at the North Island Secondary Schools Horse Trials.
- Elijah McDermott placed 5th at the Cross Country Nationals.
- Ethan Frankenfeld, Ethan Greenhill, and Ayan Baskar claimed 3rd in the Orienteering Relay Championships. At the Individual Championships, Aidan Barrett-Hamilton won the Intermediate Boys' Championship grade, with Cormac Gray finishing closely in 2nd. In the Intermediate Girls' grade, Marina Zheng placed 2nd and Daphne Slate finished 3rd.
- Dylan Gear placed 2nd in the 50m Freestyle event at the Auckland Swimming Champs.
- Elijah Parsons won the gold medal in the Artistic category at the Auckland Gymnastics Champs.
- Matias Ureta, Alex Menzies and Yuki Yamada finished 2nd in the North Island Secondary Schools' Fencing competition, and have qualified for Nationals in August.
- After their win against Howick this Wednesday, the 1st XI Girls' Football team have earned themselves a spot in the Premier grade next year. To go from being promoted to A1 last season to earning promotion to Premier just one season later is nothing short of impressive.
As always, a huge thank you to our volunteers who have helped coach, manage, officiate, or transport this Term. Your commitment and support play a vital role in the success of our sports programme and the development of our student athletes.
We’re not quite done yet with more winter sport action to resume after the holidays, including the much anticipated Winter Tournament Week (31 August - 4 September). Until then, we wish everyone a safe and relaxing break, and we look forward to what awaits us in Term 3.
