Welcome Back

Friday, 23rd January 2026 at 11:00am

Kia ora e te whānau, Happy New Year!

I hope you were able to enjoy some rest and time together over the summer break. We are looking forward to welcoming our Year 9 students to Green Bay High School next week, and to having the rest of the school back on site the following week.

NCEA Results
The initial NCEA results are now available and I am proud of the continued achievement of our senior students:

  • Level 1 NCEA: 89%
  • Level 2 NCEA: 88%
  • Level 3 NCEA: 89%

We are currently completing a full analysis of the results and will share this with the school community once results are finalised.

Property Developments
A significant amount of building and property work has taken place over the summer break. Our new Science Block is progressing well and is now clearly visible from the Stottholm Road entrance. The canopy over the turf is also well underway and is expected to be completed by mid to late February.

Tuck Shop
We are pleased to welcome Tuckr as our new tuck shop provider. They will be introducing a refreshed menu, along with digital kiosks that allow students to order and pay before school and collect food at interval or lunchtime.

The tuck shop will be fully operational from Monday, 2 February, when the whole school returns. A limited ‘soft opening’ will operate during the Year 9 orientation days. Year 9 students should still bring food on these days, as only a small range of items will be available.

Key Calendar Dates

  • Thursday, 29 January – Year 9 Pōwhiri and Orientation Day 1 (9.00am - 3.15pm) Information about the pōwhiri was emailed to Year 9 whānau earlier this week.
  • Thursday, 29 January – Senior Course Confirmation (11.00am–1.00pm) Only for senior students who have gaps in their timetable or need to make subject changes.
  • Friday, 30 January – Year 9 Orientation Day 2 (8.40am - 3.15pm)
  • Monday, 2 February – All students attend (8.40am - 3.15pm) The day begins with Form Period at 8.40am. Students in Years 10–13 should check their timetable by logging into their school.kiwi Web Portal before Monday to confirm their Form Period room.
  • Friday, 6 February – Waitangi Day (School closed)

Attendance
Regular attendance from the start of the year is important in supporting student learning and wellbeing. If a student is unwell or unable to attend school, please notify the school using the usual absence process.

Uniform
Students in Years 9–12 are expected to wear the correct school uniform each day. Our uniform includes a wide range of items, and support is available for students who need to borrow uniform items.

A few reminders:

  • The GBHS short skirt has the school logo on the bottom hem.
  • The GBHS long skirt does not have a split.
  • Socks must be plain black.
  • Any undershirts must be white.
  • A full description of uniform requirements is available on the school website.

Cellphones
If a student chooses to bring a cellphone to school:

  • It must be switched off and in their bag by the start of Period 1.
  • It must remain in their bag until the end of Period 5.
  • Phones must be kept in the student’s own school bag.
  • Phones should not be connected to smartwatches.
  • Accessories such as earbuds, AirPods, or headphones must also remain in bags during the school day.

Phones are brought to school at the student’s own risk. The school is not responsible for loss or damage. Students with approved exemptions will be issued a physical pass by Deputy Principal Sandy Begg, and this will be recorded on KAMAR.

Support
If a student needs support with settling back into school, our pastoral and guidance teams are available. Families are welcome to make contact if they have any concerns.

A note for parents and caregivers
If you need to get an urgent message to your child during class time, please contact Student Services on 817 8173 ext 205.

We are looking forward to another great year.

Ngā mihi nui,
Fiona Barker
