Jnr Maths Comps

Calling all keen Mathematicians!

As part of the Mathematics program at Green Bay High School, students are invited to participate in the following competitions:

• University of Otago Junior Maths Competition: 7 May 2025, cost $5 (Yr 9,10 & 11 - some question examples here).
• Australian Maths Competitions: Thursday 5 - 7 August 2025, cost $10 (both Juniors & Seniors - some question examples here)
• Mathex: August 2025, No cost (Selected Juniors)

These are largely problem-solving competitions that utilise skills from across the Mathematics curriculum. This is a great way to further develop the skills of students who enjoy mathematics and respond well to being challenged.

The University of Otago Junior Maths Competition and the Australian Maths Competition will take place during school time and students will receive certificates for participation or high achievement and monetary prizes for the first 30 students for the Otago Junior Maths Competition.

The Mathex competition is held in the evening at the Barfoot & Thompson stadium in Kohimarama.

The Mathematics Faculty will organise training and preparation for the competitions.
