Y8 Transition Visits

Welcome to the GBHS Whānau! The move from intermediate school to high school can be a significant event for our rangatahi. In order to make this change as easy as possible, GBHS runs a structured transition programme for all Year 8 students intending to come to Green Bay High School in 2023.
The visit is designed to help relieve some of the stress which can be associated with starting at a new school as well as an initial chance to begin building relationships with key people.
Last week marked the start of our transition visits, beginning with students from Blockhouse Bay Intermediate, Green Bay School, and other schools. Followed by students from Glen Eden Intermediate (Te Henga, Karekare, Piha and Muriwai mini schools) earlier this week.
Students were placed into small groups where they completed a non-verbal reasoning assessment. This is a standardised assessment that does not involve reading or writing, and provides an insight into the abilities of students who think more easily in images than words, and those who have limited reading skills and those who have English as an additional language. This information is used in conjunction with the range of other data we receive such asTTle and PATs tests for reading and maths, school reports and enrolment interviews, to place students into the class we believe will best meet their learning needs.
Following the assessment, students met some of the people who will be significant in their life at Green Bay High School, and participated in transition activities to assist them with becoming more familiar to our school.
