Taking Leadership to a Higher Level!
Year 12 students Annie-Rose Collins and Mathias Stovring recently took part in a 21-Day Outward Bound Mind, Body, Soul course.
Taking leadership to a whole new level, Outward Bounds courses are certainly empowering experiences, providing an opportunity for our future leaders to further develop independence and confidence to take on new challenges.
Annie-Rose highly recommends Outward Bound and encourages others to consider attending.
"Outward Bound was the epitome of an adventure. In an unfamiliar place with 13 strangers, doing activities you've never done before."
The course involved days at sea, sailing, and kayaking. "We climbed mountains and tracks from dawn until evening and climbed up rock walls and high rope trees. While being in the beautiful Marlborough sounds we got to see seals, little blue penguins, robins, and stingrays. Outward bound was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to push my comfort zone and have fun with other people my age."
Mathias agrees, adding that consecutive days spent hiking, learning to sail and row, making new friends and developing social and self reflection skills were definite highlights.
"Outward Bound didn't purely teach us useful life skills such as knots and navigation with a compass, but also people skills. We took time to reflect on our groups and had many opportunities to bond, as well as having a large focus on self-care and reflection, and how we can participate in the community."
