Passing the Test.
Congratulations to a group of Year 12 and 13 Vocational Studies students who have passed their learners licence this week, with the support of the Silver Fern Motorsport Trust.
Year 12 and 13 Vocational Studies students took part in a Silverfern One Day Driver Hazard & Car Maintenance programme recently, held onsite at GBHS. The day involved modules such as Driver Hazard Training and Safety Awareness (Group Facilitated), Car Maintenance and Vehicle Safety (Practical Hands-on) - how to maintain your own car and become more aware of what to look for when your vehicle needs attention to stay safe.
Upon completion of the one-day programme, students were eligible for support under the Silverfern Motorsport Charitable Trust for free funding towards gaining a full driver's licence (including driving lessons and testing). We are so proud of them!
What you are allowed to do on your learner licence: Learner licence holders have a minimum period of 6 months before booking their restricted driving test. The law is very clear about what you can and can’t do on a New Zealand learner licence:
- You can only drive a car when you have a supervisor sitting beside you.
- Your must display learner (L) plates front and rear in any car you drive.
- You may carry passengers but your supervisor has to agree as they will be responsible for them.
- You face severe penalties if you drive outside your licence conditions.
- There is a zero blood alcohol limit.
