Volunteering in the Community

Year 12 Vocational Classes spent part of their last few weeks of term volunteering at three different locations (BirdCare Aotearoa; Salvation Army, and Kiwi Valley).
Pictured above are students in action at Kiwi Valley in Henderson, cleaning cages, weeding in the horse arena, sorting recycling, packing feed packs for visitors, and enjoying some quiet time with some of the Kiwi Valley animals.
For one of our students, Jazaniah Smith, volunteering is a way of life for her. She was recognised at the school end-of-year prizegiving with an SVA Gold Service Award for volunteering over 700 hours, within and outside of school.
Teachers and Career Advisors Natalie McKerrow, Amber Margan and Geoff Hall have witnessed the growth in the students through the year developed through all the skills learned in their Vocational classes, and the students have become confident, respectful and engaged young people through their experiences.
