Congratulations to Poppy Edwards-Pascual (Year 13):
Poppy won the 'Cuento' category (story) in the Spanish Literature Contest 2024 organised by Massey University and was awarded a certificate and cash prize.
Poppy's short fiction story “Un viaje a Japón” is about a tourist's first few days in Tokyo and their experiences and emotions during the trip.
Judges praised Poppy’s short story because it was "inventive, well-written, and displayed a great deal of creativity and sensitivity towards other cultures."
All students taking Spanish at the senior level from secondary schools and universities in Aotearoa are invited to participate in this contest every year. This award seeks to contribute to the study of Spanish across Aotearoa New Zealand, while recognising the wonderful work carried out by both teachers and students.
The story must be original and the word limit is 1500 words. The evaluation criteria is originality, genre and use of Spanish (grammar, vocabulary and style.) Schools can enter up to 10 stories and 10 poems, and GBHS is looking forward to having more students enter next year.
Students can enter into one of three categories:
• Short story • Poem • University level
