Kalman Teacher Fellows (2025)

Wednesday, 6th November 2024 at 11:17am

Congratulations to GBHS Maths teachers Lucy Edmonds and Mona Mishra who have each been awarded the Kalman Fellowship (2025):

Each year, five prestigious fellowships are awarded to develop teachers and leaders in the Secondary Mathematics and Statistics teaching community. The Fellowship is a year long programme at the University of Auckland’s Department of Mathematics.

Kalman Mathematics Teacher Fellows for 2025

  • Lucy Edmonds, Green Bay High School
  • Mona Mishra, Green Bay High School
  • Ben Chambers, St Mary's College Ponsonby
  • Shasha Ruan, Diocesan School
  • Harriet Tidman, Rangitoto College

Fellows will meet thrice yearly to investigate issues relevant to their teaching practice. Fellows will be encouraged and supported to share their work with the wider mathematics teaching community, and to share insights from their studies with other teachers, through a range of professional development events, such as those run by the Auckland Mathematical Association, Primary Mathematics Association, and Communities of Learning.

Kalman Teacher Fellows are selected by a panel comprising a representative of the Auckland Mathematical Association, the Head of the Department of Mathematics and a representative of the Margaret and John Kalman Charitable Trust.

The Margaret and John Kalman Charitable Trust generously donates $30,000+ each year to recognise the achievements of Primary, Intermediate and Secondary school Mathematics and Statistics teachers in New Zealand. John Kalman was a professor of Mathematics at the University of Auckland from 1964 to 1993, and a leading promoter of Mathematics in New Zealand.
