Y8 Transition Visits - starting soon!
Friday, 17th November 2023 at 11:20am
The move from intermediate school to high school can be a significant event for our rangatahi.
In order to make this change as easy as possible, Green Bay High School runs a structured transition programme for all Year 8 students intending to join us (Year 9 2024).
Transition visits start next week. These are designed to help relieve some of the stress which can be associated with starting at a new school as well as an initial chance to begin building relationships with key people.
Parent/caregivers of students enrolled to start at Green Bay High School (Year 9 2024) have been sent an email with dates and more information. Please contact the school office (phone: 817-8173 ext 201) if you have not received this email.
Students will be placed into small groups to complete a non-verbal reasoning assessment. This is a standardised assessment that does not involve reading or writing, and provides an insight into the abilities of students who think more easily in images than words, and those who have limited reading skills and those who have English as an additional language. This information is used in conjunction with the range of other data we receive such asTTle and PATs tests for reading and maths, school reports and enrolment interviews, to place students into the class we believe will best meet their learning needs.
Following the assessment, students meet with some of the people who will be significant in their life at Green Bay High School, and participate in transition activities to assist them with becoming more familiar with our school.
The visit will be approx 3 hours long, and students will have morning tea at Green Bay High School. Students will not need to bring their school bags.
If you have any questions regarding enrolment, course selection, and/or Transition Visits - please contact us, we are happy to help!
