The theme is: Whatungarongaro te tangata, toitū te whenua. This whakataukī speaks to the importance and permanence of whenua. While people come and go, the land remains. When we act as kaitiaki and care for and protect our land, we uphold the mana of our ancestors and remember the struggles of those who came before us. The whenua (land) has existed long before us and will continue to exist far beyond each of our individual lives.
