GBHS Elimination Tournament:
The Euro Cup is the first student-led initiative to come from our school's newly formed Sports Council. The idea was pitched during a brainstorming session and has come to fruition through the leadership of Sports Council Leaders Leaders Max Marvin, Zoe Llewellyn, and Sophie Fouche with help from members of the Sports Council.
The word was soon out, with Posters, Draws and more information readily available for all to sign up and take their place.
Due to popular demand, the tournament consisted of a knock-out series of 4 rounds (with up to 24 teams), held on Tuesdays and Fridays over the past two weeks. With quarter-finals and semi-finals leading up to today's Grand Finale.
Each team was assigned a European country to represent, earning valuable House points.
Teacher Ben Cook was deemed the 'official' referee and kept a close eye on the 15-minute, mixed-team matches.
"I think I stumbled into the ref job by turning up and being handed a whistle," he says.
Congratulations to team Netherlands (Yr 11s), who won 1-0 against team Czechia (Snrs)!
Well done to everyone involved for displaying GBHS's values of Excellence/Rau o Te Huia, Courage/Ko Kauri, Respect/He Tangata, He Tangata, and Responsiveness/E Tipu, E Rea.
