Congratulations to Nora Vastag (Year 10) who has been awarded FOUR top awards from Buddies Without Borders!

For demonstrating her scholarly ability and leadership skills in the recent online forum discussing 'Fast Fashion to Eco-Fashion'.

Nora was ranked in the Top Five - based on the most points earned throughout the Forum and received certificates for The Best Team, People's Choice, Top Five, Pioneer Award. The Forum How Do We Look? From Fast Fashion to Eco-Fashion was concluded after a month-long discussion, research and reflections by approximately 40 secondary school-aged students from over 20 countries.

Nora worked online with a student from India and a student from Japan who collaborated on their ideas and produced the following winning entry. (CLICK HERE)

Buddies Without Borders Online Forums are month-long, web-based collaboration and competition projects, where selected representatives from each country meet online to debate and co-author recommendation papers to solve a predefined Sustainable Development Goals-related challenge.

Nora wrote the following item about the experience…

"Between April 6th and May 11th earlier this year I participated in a Global Education Destinations forum, dedicated to the topic of finding solutions that turn fast fashion into eco fashion.

Throughout the forum I grew incredibly and nourished my knowledge. Before starting I vaguely knew these problems existed, and with Fast Fashion I didn't know just how badly places like Shein, H&M and Zara were contributing to exploitative labour, waste and climate change.

Throughout researching these global problems, and working with like minded teens from countries thousands of kilometres away, showed me that there is hope in our younger generations, to turn our fight with climate change around, with both short and long term solutions.

The Forum also taught great consistency with there being a new research topic each week regarding our assigned countries and fast fashion. It really opened my eyes and helped me grow as a person, seeing different perspectives and others' daily lives.

I also got to meet many new people from countries such as Norway, Vietnam and Turkey and collaborate with them. This was very enriching as I got to see how people from different countries view these global issues, and what solutions they saw should be implemented."
