Cleaning up the neighbourhood and bringing back the dawn chorus - in support of the Waima to Laingholm (W2L) Pest Free initiative.
Year 13 students Zuli Wade, Owen Gilchrist, and Arthur Norton are helping our local area (from Waima to Laingholm) become a Pest Free Zone, joining W2L Chairman Neil Dingle last weekend.
Our intrepid trappers took part in a health and safety check and identified hazards - before setting out to check traps, record catches, and rebait along the Exhibition Drive "A" trap line.
The team caught three rats and a possum (although a couple were just skeleton remains). Students were given a D-Rat trap, a supply of peanut butter and a tote bag to take home.
W2L work within a rahui permit granted by Te Kawerau a Maki to protect Kauri with volunteers undergoing training, resetting the traps.
