AUT ‘SHADOW A LEADER’ DAY:
Green Bay High School successfully applied to have a group of Year 13 Business students attend AUT's 'Shadow a Leader Day' last week, with business mentors and leaders across several Auckland businesses.
The AUT Shadow a Leader Day gives Auckland secondary school students and AUT Business, Economics and Law students the chance to follow a business leader for a day.
The programme provides an invaluable experience to spend a day in the professional world, exposing them to the skills and attributes to navigate a successful career in their chosen field, including hands-on experience within a wide range of day-to-day duties, such as strategy, sales, and/or senior staff meetings, site visits, factory tours, HR consultation, product manufacturing, and even board meetings.
Our students came back buzzing from the experience! Here is what a few of them had to say:
- "I really loved this experience. It was great to be able to see what someone's day-to-day in a company (Pacific Forum Line) looks like from a hands-on and internal point of view" - Daniel Stuart, Year 13 Business Studies student
- "Fonterra provided me with valuable knowledge and insight into their work ethic and how they run things. A wonderful experience that improved my outlook on businesses" - Sophie Ray, Year 13 Business Studies student
- "It was an incredible experience to see how a major company in the world like Microsoft operates in New Zealand, and it was immensely valuable for me helping me with my career aspirations beyond school." - Milan Wilson, Year 13 Business Studies student
