Bringing Music to Life:

This special event was attended by Year 9, Year 10, and Year 13 music students from Green Bay High School, accompanied by parent helpers

Designed to bring the music curriculum to life, the concert provided secondary school students with a rare opportunity to enjoy a live orchestral performance by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

The concert featured curriculum-linked demonstrations, historical anecdotes, and a diverse array of music. Conductor David Kay and presenter Steven Logan led the audience through a thoughtfully curated program, including John Williams' "Star Wars Imperial March," Klaus Badelt's "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," and Holst's "The Planets: Jupiter."

Students had the opportunity to experience the powerful and evocative sounds of a full orchestra. This exposure helped enhance their understanding of orchestral and programmatic music, illustrating the evolution of music through different historical periods and styles. The event provided a practical and immersive complement to their NCEA music studies, making classroom concepts come alive in a dynamic way.

Listening to such a variety of pieces allowed the students to appreciate the different instruments and their collaboration in creating complex and beautiful music. It was an invaluable educational experience, fostering a deeper appreciation for the art of orchestral music.
