Pursuing Scientific Research and Careers in Science and Technology

Mila Howlett and Zuli Wade (Year 12) are heading off to Barcelona (!) to work alongside leading researchers discovering the ever-changing weird and wonderful world of science.

Barcelona International Youth Science (BIYSC) is a two-week international science program for students who are eager to expand their knowledge in areas of Science and Technology.

After submitting their written application as part of the selection process, Zuli and Mila were then interviewed (via zoom) with different scientists. GBHS Science teacher Dr Angelo Tedoldi, who encouraged students to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime experience, says Mila and Zuli will be part of some developing research projects. Attending scientific lectures, participating in scientific discussions and vsiting some of the top International Research Centers in Catalonia.

Zuli will be working alongside scientists investigating brain stem research and Mila will be working with scientists studying neurology and brain function.

"I definitely want to do something science-based at Uni, so this will help me discover which area of study to focus on," says Mila.

BIYSC brings together 150 like-minded students from around the globe to participate in a project that suits their interests, taking part in some cutting-edge research alongside active researchers. The BIYSC Barcelona International Youth Science program takes place from the 3 - 14 July, 2023.
