Matariki Celebrations

Friday, 23rd June 2023 at 8:25am

Nau mai, haere mai te karanga o te tau hou o Matariki.

Green Bay High School warmly invites you and your whānau to join us for this year's Matariki celebration and hāngī on Friday 14 July 2023.

The ceremony will begin at 11:00am. Please assemble from 10:45am at Tauihu (Green Bay Beach).

Once we are gathered on the beach, we will honour our whānau members who have departed over the past Matariki, sing waiata, share the story of how Te Mānukanuka o Hoturoa (Manukau Harbour) got its name and commemorate the beginning o Te Mātahi o te Tau (the Māori New Year).

We will then return to the kura at around 12:30pm where we will have hāngī together to conclude our Matariki celebrations. We are really looking forward to this much anticipated event and hope you are able to join us. If you able to join us please use the following Google form: https://forms.gle/8E2Qk5a496QAnkNK9

If you would like any of your loved ones who have passed during the Matariki year June 2022 to be remembered in our Matariki Maumahara 2023, please type your loved ones name(s) into the Google Form.

There is also a space for dietary requirements to be noted in the sign up form. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements/preferences and we will do our best to cater to those (although we can't guarantee anything due to the nature of how hāngī are cooked).

  • Mānawatia te Kāhui o Matariki
  • 10:45am Tauihu (Green Bay Beach)
