BLAKE Inspire

Felix Shaw (Year 13) is about to embark on an adventure for young leaders with a passion for the environment.
Felix was successful in his application for the BLAKE Inspire programme (22 - 26 September 2025) and is looking forward to discussing topical environmental issues with like-minded students.
This programme provides Felix with an opportunity to take part in environmental and marine science activities while also visiting businesses and local organisations to learn about what they are doing to reduce their impact on the environment - something he is very passionate about.
Felix leads by example to make a difference in the school and wider community in his current capacity as GBHS Service Council Student Leader, and Green Impact member. He is also a member of the Whau Youth Board and has taken on the role of Co-Chair in just his second year. Felix is also part of the GBHS Kapa Hauora wellbeing group.
Careers Counsellor and Green Impact founder, Fiona Drummond, supported Felix with his application.
“Felix is an incredible young man, who demonstrates humility, selflessness, courage and resilience and is fully deserving of any growth opportunities that come his way, that help transition him to an extraordinary adult.”
Felix’s desire to help get our school waste system up and running saw him awarded the Karaka 2024 Love Your Place Awards - Celebrating Waitākere’s environmental heroes, alongside staff member Fiona Drummond, and fellow student Stella Raccuglia (Year 11) for their ongoing work and dedication to school-wide composting and recycling initiatives.
