The students always look forward to the Ball with great enthusiasm and, with your involvement before and after the Ball, I am sure it will be a successful and enjoyable evening.

The Ball is a school function and we expect those attending to meet our usual high standards of behaviour. Students and their partners must understand that the school will refuse admission to anyone who tries to bring alcohol or any illegal substance into the Ball whether or not there is evidence that they have been drinking. We will refuse admission to, or send home, anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or any illegal substance. Students who are sent home, or not allowed in, will not have their money refunded. Students and their partners are not allowed to smoke or vape while at the Ball. Upon arrival at the venue students will be asked to go through a security check, which includes a bag check. This is completed by the Event Centre Security staff and not school staff. Female security guards will be available for female students.

Students must arrive at the Ball before 8.00pm and once they have come into the venue, they will not be allowed to leave and then re-enter the premises.

Transport to the Ball and home afterwards is the responsibility of each student and his/her parents or caregivers and not the responsibility of the school. Although our responsibility for the students finishes at the end of the Ball I am always concerned that they all get home safely immediately after the Ball and expect you to ensure that adequate transport arrangements have been made for them. If you are picking up your son or daughter at the end of the Ball you would be welcome to come into the venue itself to enjoy the music while you wait for them.

No school functions will be held before or after the Ball and we do not accept responsibility for any student activities other than the Ball itself.

In the past there have been some minor problems caused by the availability of alcohol at pre-Ball parties held in students’ homes. I would hope that if there are any pre-Ball parties, parents will be present at them. I urge you to remind your son or daughter and his or her friends of the disappointment and embarrassment they will feel if they arrive at the Ball in a condition which results in them being refused entry.

With your support I am sure that once again the Ball will be a most successful and enjoyable school activity for the students. In previous years the managers of the venues where we have held the Ball have complimented the school on the maturity, courtesy and excellent behaviour of our students and I look forward to an entertaining evening with them.

Yours sincerely, Fiona Barker PRINCIPAL
