Learning Languages Takes You Places!
Mathias Stovring (Year 12) has just received some exciting news - he is one of two students from New Zealand selected to travel to Germany on a fully funded Pedagogical Exchange Service (PAD) Scholarship, to spend four weeks in Germany in June/July this year. Mathias (pictured above with HOD Languages Nicole Polke) is looking forward to being immersed in the German culture, visiting museums, and learning about the history.
Green Bay High School students who received an Excellence Endorsement (German) last year were encouraged to apply for the PAD Scholarship. Mathias is still a bit shell-shocked to receive confirmation via an email from Goethe-Institut New Zealand, saying "Congratulations on your outstanding success. You are one of two students for Aotearoa New Zealand to travel to Germany 27th June – 25th July 2023 on a full PAD scholarship. We are delighted to inform you that you have distinguished yourself through your particular achievements in German and good all-round education. You have therefore been selected to apply for the International Award Programme."
As part of the International Award Programme, Mathias will spend a month in the Federal Republic of Germany, of which two weeks will be spent living with a host family and attending lessons at a German school. Mathias will then spend a further two weeks visiting the cities of Bonn / Cologne, Berlin and Munich supervised by a team of tour guides.
PAD scholarships in New Zealand are funded by ILEP (International Languages Exchanges and Pathways), the Goethe-Insitut and the German government.
