GBHS's first Whānau Hui for the year (Wednesday 5 March 2025) was a wonderfully inclusive evening, bringing our community together in a shared space of learning and connection - filled with games and plenty of pizza!

Our new karakia was introduced for everyone to learn and use at each hui moving forward, reinforcing our collective spirit. The evening also marked the unveiling of our new symbol, the karaka tree, which represents all parts of the tree and its significance to our community.

Senior student leaders and staff performed the school waiata, and we had the privilege of learning about its composer while also learning about its meaning and origins.

In addition, we shared the key Māori-based events planned for 2025 and discussed the exciting idea of fostering a more whānau-driven group moving forward. We emphasised that we will continue seeking everyone’s voice as we grow and strengthen our community together.
