Wise words from Thomas Forrest-Dawson (Yr 13)
"Going for a long run and ticking off your goals is one of the best things you can do!"
These are very wise words from Thomas, who, as you may have guessed, loves to run (and is very good at it).
Thomas took part in the New Zealand Cross Country Relays, in Taupo, last weekend. Competing in the U20 Mixed Team cross country relay, whereby a team of four each ran 2km to complete the 8km race. Thomas' team certainly had speed on their side, with the inclusion of past pupil Hazel Cook, and an additional two Auckland runners. The team secured third place, with a finish time of 29.54.
The day after the relay race, Thomas went for a 2.5km run up Mt Tauhara, to the summit at 1,088 meters, overlooking the views of Lake Taupo.
Thomas aims to run 90kms each week and includes cycling as part of his training in the lead-up to his next events.
Next on the agenda is the Pairs Relay, to be held this Saturday at Cornwall Park. Within the next few weeks, Thomas will be competing in the NZSS Road Race competition, as well as the Auckland Road Race Championship, and the New Zealand Road Race Champs, held in Palmerston North, in September.
