Recycle a Device (RAD)

It was all hands on deck (literally) on Wednesday (22 May 2024), as a select group of students disassembled and completed keyboard diagnostic and repairs during a full-day training workshop run by Remojo Tech, as part of the Recycle a Device (RAD) programme.

RAD is a nationwide charitable initiative teaching rangatahi the skills needed to proactively interact with the digital world - following a sustainable model that aims to divert e-waste from e-recycling and landfills while also supporting students into tech careers.

Supported by a number of key stakeholders including Digital Future Aotearoa (lead), Spark Foundation, Spend My Super, DECA, Remojo Tech, and The Southern Initiative, RAD provides all training and laptops ready for refurbishment.

With students utilising BYOD as part of their school stationery requirements, it makes sense to learn tech engineering skills to problem-solve and fix issues as they arise.
