Loving Literature.
Green Bay High School was represented at the North/West Auckland Regional Readers' Cup Competition recently - an interschool competition designed to promote a love of reading and literature.
Year 9 students: Nora Vastag, Stella Raccuglia, Keira Scott-Woods, Michael Zuo, Megan Schussler, were accompanied by GBHS Librarians Nicola Petersen and Jenny Wrigley. There were 10 schools competing and our team came second equal, which lead to a nail biting tie breaking round. They came through and were placed second, winning a book each and a pile of books for the school library.
The Readers' Cup is a reading competition designed for Year 9 students. Students read a set of six books, and compete with other school teams to answer quiz questions relating to the books. This challenges students to work collaboratively in a team, expand their reading genre, while continuing to develop a love of reading.
The books were Refugee by Alan Gratz, Goldfish Boy by Lisa Thompson, Falling into Rarohenga by Steph Matuku, No Fixed Address by Susin Nielsen, We Were Liars by E. Lockhart and Rebound by Kwame Alexander.
