Helping Youth to Change the World: Katrina Piezzo
Making a positive difference with her ongoing support and guidance has earned Katrina Piezzo the recognition of being one of this year's Global Educators of the Year recipients.
Katrina has been an active advocate for Buddies Without Borders (BWB) connecting Green Bay High School students with other like-minded teens around the world to discuss and make a difference on a global level.
The BWB Club at Green Bay High School, facilitated by Director of International students Katrina Piezzo and Deputy Principal Elaine Webb, was launched several years ago. Current BWB students: Pheobe Brown, Emelia Queenin, Bella Wood, Krisha Karippail (all Year 10s) participated in a Buddies Without Borders forum earlier this year, creating a website to promote happiness for teenagers - proposing a concept to solve NZ’s mental health crisis. Their website: Fences helps teens to cope with mental health issues through mindfulness and awareness.
Global warming and extreme weather conditions affect us all. Our BWB Club also jumped into action to support the local community affected by flooding in 2023 and volunteered at Vision West Centre packaging food for families in need - serving hundreds of community residents.
Global Education Destinations is a global "think tank" for teens by teens, helping to build understanding and friendships across racial and cultural borders as equal global citizens through a range of Buddies Without Borders club activities.
