Year 13 students have a formal Graduation occasion at the…' --- # Recognition & Awards Top Honours and Awards ![maori honours award](https://greenbayhigh.school.nz/images/1/a/3/d/2/1a3d213f19141c62af81e0ca828393f074c85acc-he-taonga-maori-award-2022.jpg "maori honours award") #### Prizegiving, Graduation Ceremony, and Celebrations **Green Bay High School takes pride in acknowledging and celebrating students who achieve their goals, with prestigious Scholarships and Awards announced at the conclusion of each school year.** Year 13 students have a formal Graduation occasion at the end of the year, with invited guests from University and Tertiary institutions awarding successful recipients with a range of tertiary packages and/or scholarships. Sporting Excellence Awards are presented during an annual Sports Dinner, recognising our top sports-people and their commitment to representing Green Bay High School on a local, national and international arena. ###### Criteria To be eligible for any of the awards at Green Bay High School, the nominated student must have consistently conducted themselves in a manner reflective of the school values. The recipient will have demonstrated significant service to the school: - Which significantly impacts upon a wide cross-section of the school community - For a significant and sustained period of time - That is likely to be in more than one area - Not necessarily connected to a formal student leadership role - That embodies the school values ###### Junior Honours Awards - **He Taonga Māori**: Waiho rā kia tū takitahi ana ngā whetū o te rangi - Let it be one alone that stands among the other stars in the sky. Awarded to a senior student of māori descent who, through their deeds and actions will have significantly strengthened their own personal mana and that of their tupuna and Nga iwi Māori. - **Creative Arts**: Awarded to the student who has demonstrated Excellence in the sphere of Creative Arts at Green Bay High School. This could include, but is not limited to exhibiting, competing, performing, producing, publishing or composing; and has made a significant contribution in a chosen creative field which may include extracurricular activities; and has embodied the school values. - **Sports**: Awarded to a student who has demonstrated excellence and service to sport at Green Bay High School by having: Excelled in sport for at the highest level available to them at Green Bay High School, as one or more of Player, Coach or Referee as per the tier structure below; Has significantly impacted on the development of excellence in sport at Green Bay High School; Has been a positive role model by demonstrating the school values. - **Service**: Awarded to the student who has demonstrated significant service to the school: Which significantly impacts upon a wide cross-section of the school community - For a significant and sustained period of time; That is likely to be in more than one area; That embodies the school values. - **Te Angitu Ngātahi - Succeeding together**: Awarded to a student from each year level, at the end of each term, who has truly exemplified Te Angitu Ngātahi - Succeeding together. Someone who consistently supports and encourages other to succeed to be the best they can be. - **Academic**: First in Subject Award, awarded the top student in each junior class. ###### Senior Honours Awards - **DUX Award**: This is the school’s top academic prize and is our ultimate celebration of academic excellence. The award is given to the student in each Year level that has demonstrated academic excellence by achieving: (1) The greatest number of Excellence credits across courses at the relevant NCEA Level. (2) Derived grades and predicted Art and Technology grades will be included in the calculations.
