These changes will certainly have an impact on schools in our area and we will keep…' --- # Term 2 2025 - 23 May 2025 Pūrongo Rongo Newsletter (23 May 2025) ![Leadership](https://greenbayhigh.school.nz/user/pages/newsletters/2025/term-2-2025-23-may-2025/Leadership@2x%20(1).jpg "Leadership") #### Kia ora e te whānau; The budget released in Wellington this week saw some big announcements for the education sector with the ending of the Kāhui Ako initiative and greater investment in Learning Support resourcing. These changes will certainly have an impact on schools in our area and we will keep our community informed as to exactly what the implications will be when details become available. The idea of turning the audio up to eleven will resonate with some readers and our rock musicians have been turning the dial right to the top in the SmokeFreeRockQuest. Friday night last week saw them competing with other bands and it is fabulous to share that the Green Bay High School band Incipit made it through to the Auckland Regional finals on June 6. We finish our in-house participation in New Zealand Music Month next week with our Year 11 musicians playing live in school at lunchtime on Tuesday. Adding another note to our student success stories this week, our Hospitality students won awards at the Secondary and Tertiary Training Hospitality Competition at Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT). Within the cooking and baking sections, the Green Bay team did exceptionally well - and a reminder to these students that all baked goods and prepared meals can be tested by staff as required. Year 10 Literacy and Numeracy CAA candidates did the school proud this week. The results themselves are not known for a while, but the way in which our students conducted themselves was excellent. Approximately 2500 hours of purposeful and focused exam time across the week saw our students doing their best in these first steps towards completing NCEA qualifications. For those who missed out this week, there will be CAA (catch-up) exams next week - individual students will be notified if they are required to attend these catch-up sessions. Also happening next week is our Careers Education Plan where all students complete their second careers module for the year. You will be able to read in the newsletter about leadership courses, entrepreneurial excellence, language student success, sporting drama, and to top it off we had a team of students representing GBHS at the Model United Nations Assembly - not quite in New York City, but almost overseas (on the North Shore at Rosmini College). We are already approaching the middle of the term: it is busy, it is vibrant, it is positive, it is Green Bay High School in all its multifaceted guises.
